What we do
Water East Timor Inc (WET) is a not for profit incorporated association that aims to improve the living standards and health outcomes of people living in rural villages in Timor-Leste. We raise funds to provide materials, expertise and training for water and sanitation projects. Local villagers are directly engaged in the selection, construction and maintenance of the projects.
For some years WET has collaborated with the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East, which also raises funds to develop water and sanitation infrastructure in Timor-Leste. The establishment of WET has increased the involvement and participation of the broader community. Under the joint auspices of WET and Rotary, small teams of local tradespeople have travelled regularly to Timor-Leste to teach local villagers the skills to construct, implement and maintain water systems. More recently, and especially since COVID, Timorese have been able to implement water projects independently, using the skills and knowledge passed on by WET’s Warrnambool-based team.
WET has no paid staff and is comprised entirely of volunteers who provide administrative, project management and technical skills. The WET Committee of Management has nine members, including a representative of the Bakhita Centre, our in-country partner in Timor-Leste.
We have been registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission since 2012, and are accountable them for all our operational and financial activities.
